Over the winter break I visited Thailand for the first time. The buildings there were very different from western architecture. It was heavily tied to the main religion in Thailand, Buddhism. The temples were very well preserved because there are usually monks on the site to take care of them. I noticed that red and gold colors were often used when decorating temples. Some of the common symbols were lions, elephants, snakes, and dragons which were usually depicted as statues placed around the temples. I saw a couple of ancient temples as well, such as Ayutthaya, which looked very grand for its age. Thailand architecture and culture is very detailed and complex. I would love to continue learning about it.
